About the Inventors
My wife and I, co-inventors of this product, have considerable personal experience with the ostomy pouch. As a sufferer of colon cancer, I had to have an ileostomy while my colon was healing from a resection operation. Luckily, mine was temporary and it was reversed after a few months; the cancer was in an early stage and so far has not returned.
However, I have clear memories of the difficulties I encountered during that period. I can remember horrified looks on the faces of my daughters when they first observed the pouch—it was a transparent model. I also cannot forget dealing with the aftermath of a clip failure that, unknown to me, had occurred during a racquetball game when I was hit by a ball (my leg felt very cool for some reason!). I'm sure every pouch user has similar stories.
My wife, who patiently assisted me in the maintenance of the pouch, became convinced that a system could be developed to make life easier living with the pouch, so before my reversal operation we experimented with several prototypes of this product that she had created. We believe this simple but useful product will reduce some of the discomforts of living with this difficult problem.
